Colorado Health Insurance Plans

Coloradans can buy health insurance through Connect for Health Colorado (the state marketplace, where income-based savings are available), directly from carriers, or through an employer. An independent broker compares plans from multiple carriers in one conversation and helps you enroll for free.

Finding the right health insurance in Colorado comes down to three things: which plans are available in your county, which doctors and hospitals are in network, and what you will actually pay once premiums, deductibles and copays are added up.

Mile High Health Brokers is a Westminster-based independent agency. We work with multiple Colorado carriers, so we can compare marketplace plans, off-exchange private plans and small group options for you in one place.

What It Costs

Premiums depend on your age, ZIP code, tobacco use and metal tier. Households that qualify for tax credits through Connect for Health Colorado can pay much less. We compare total yearly cost, not just the premium.

You can apply through Connect for Health Colorado, directly with a carrier, or with a licensed broker who handles the application for you.

No, it costs the same. ACA plan prices are filed with the state, so the premium is identical whether you buy directly or through a broker. The carrier pays the broker, and you get free help comparing and enrolling.

An HMO usually requires you to use in-network doctors and get referrals to see specialists, and it typically has lower premiums. A PPO lets you see specialists without referrals and offers some out-of-network coverage, usually for a higher premium.

Most people become eligible for Medicare at 65. If you have an individual or marketplace plan, you will usually move to Medicare and cancel the individual plan. Timing matters to avoid gaps and penalties, so plan a few months ahead.
